The NIRF ranking for 2025 was released on 4 September 2025. IIM Ahmedabad held the top spot for the sixth year running, with IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode following. QS Global MBA Rankings 2027: How Indian Business Schools Rank
QS released the 2027 edition on 16 September 2026. It covers more than 420 MBA programmes in 65 countries and territories. IIM Bangalore ranks joint 64th, IIM Ahmedabad joint 70th and IIM Calcutta 95th. All three slipped from last year, and India now has 19 entries. Those 19 entries compare with 14 in the 2026 edition. Top Government MBA Colleges in India
India’s top government B-schools combine low or moderate fees, strong brands and consistent recruiters. They admit mostly through CAT, with JBIMS as the notable exception via Maharashtra’s CET.
IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management)
There are 20+ IIMs. The older six (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Indore) are the most sought after among the top colleges for MBA in India. IIM Guwahati opened in February 2026, and its first MBA cohort finishes in 2028.

IITs Offering MBA
IIT MBA fees run from about ₹4.6 lakh at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad to ₹15.6 lakh at IIT Bombay. Average packages are broadly ₹17–28 lakh depending on the school.
FMS Delhi, JBIMS and IIFT: Low-Fee MBA Colleges in India
JBIMS specifics: seats are limited to roughly 120–160. The general cutoff sits around 99.9+ percentile in MAH CET. About 85% of seats are reserved for Maharashtra candidates and 15% are for All India applicants.

MBA Eligibility Criteria and Application Process
Basic MBA Eligibility in India (CAT and Most National Exams)
To apply to the top colleges for MBA in India, you need a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD) from a recognised university. There is no age limit or cap on attempts. Final-year students, and CA/CS/CMA/FIAI holders, can also apply. Work experience is not mandatory for most two-year MBA programmes. Individual schools add their own criteria:
- IIMs: Many weigh 10th/12th marks, graduation, work experience and gender or academic diversity.
- IITs: Requirements vary by institute, often 55–60% in graduation. Check each IIT’s notice.
- MDI: A bachelor’s degree with 50% marks is required, and PGPM and PGP-HR ask for 50% in Class 10 and 12. A specialised programme, PGPM-IM, requires a year of work experience.
- IIFT: A three-year bachelor’s degree with 50% (45% for SC/ST/PwD).
- JBIMS: 50% (45% reserved). Admission depends on MAH CET percentile and CAP rounds, with no GD, WAT or PI for MMS.
- ISB PGP: GMAT or GRE, with a minimum of two years’ work experience (as of 31 March). There is no CAT and no minimum score.
How to Get Admission in the Top MBA Colleges in India: Typical CAT-Route Application Process
- Register for CAT on iimcat.ac.in. The fee is ₹2,700 (General/EWS/NC-OBC) and ₹1,350 (SC/ST/PwD).
- Take CAT on 29 November 2026 (three slots, conducted by IIM Indore). The admit card is due on 4 November.
- Get results in the third or fourth week of December, typically.
- Fill individual applications. FMS Delhi, IIFT, SPJIMR and other schools have their own forms and deadlines, usually October to December. FMS Delhi’s application fee was ₹1,000 last cycle.
- Shortlist by CAT percentile, then WAT/GD/PI. Weightage varies. IIFT uses CAT 55%, PI 20%, GD 10%, academics 5%, gender diversity 5%, work experience 5%.
